Cliff Diving Ceremony Last Night

Aloha all,

Many of you know that one of our biggest attractions at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is our cliff diving ceremony. As the sun begins to fade on the horizon, our cliff diver lights all of our tiki torches on property and takes photographs with our guests. Once completed, he begins to make his way up to the farthest point on Black Rock as one of our hula dancers performs in front of our guests at Cliff Dive Bar. After lighting the last four torches on Black Rock, our cliff diver makes a blessing to our ancestors and offers a lei to the rolling surf. Just as the sun sets behind historical Black Rock, our diver plunges head first into the blue waters below. The photo below was taken last night. Please come join us every evening as we perform this ancient tradition.

Sheraton Maui Adventure Club

At the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa, we know that there are some days when our guests would rather enjoy our 23 ocean front acres than see the sights and sounds around the island of Maui. While they are some must see attractions on the Magic Isle, there will come a day when our guests wish to simply relax on property.

For the past few years, we have implemented fun, cultural activities for guests of any age to enjoy on property. The program is called the Sheraton Maui Adventure Club and many of the activities offered are complimentary! Allow your kids to learn how to play ukulele, learn how to dance hula, or take poi ball lessons!

We have many activities each day to keep you entertained throughout your journey with us here at the Sheraton. Feel free to take a look at our Daily Activities Board to find the activity that best fits your schedule and interest. These boards can be found all around property including our lobby and Cliff Dive Bar.

If you have any questions about the activity, then feel free to stop by our Towel Kiosk Stand and ask for our Director of Fun, Laura Demott. She will be happy to answer any of your questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

Cliff Dive Bar and Mai Tai Bar Await You!

It is the start of a new beginning at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa! Guests will now find that our bars have been renamed to Mai Tai Bar and Cliff Dive Bar!

What was originally Sundowner Bar, the new and improved Mai Tai Bar will still offer the same great food and drinks, including the always popular, Black Rock Mai Tai! I highly recommend this drink if you are looking for the true Hawaiian cocktail. Hours will still be from 10:30am - 3pm.

Lagoon Bar will now be called Cliff Dive Bar. Due to the popularity of our nightly cliff diving ceremony, we figured this new name was more fitting for this establishment! Guests will enjoy food and drinks at this bar from 11:30am - 8pm. Be sure to catch the cliff diving ceremony every night at sunset, followed by local entertainment immediately following the event.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Sheraton Maui Gives Back...

This Christmas season, Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa teamed up with Lokahi Pacific, an independent, private non-profit housing and community development organization for the island of Maui. With their assistance, Sheraton Maui selected three families in need of a new beginning. While some families were in need of furniture and toiletries for their family members, others simply desired shoes and clothing for their children.

When our Sales Team asked for support from the hotel, the amount of donations was overwhelming.

Some employees decided to buy items from our local stores, such as toilet paper, toys, clothes, and much more. Others were gracious enough to donate their entire days worth of gratuities from hotel guests. It was amazing to see how many employees donated what they could to help these families in need. With the support of our food and beverage team, the hotel also brought each family a full Christmas dinner. These families could now celebrate the holiday season with a full dinner of turkey, stuffing, salad, mashed potatoes, apple pie and much more!

In the end, Sheraton Maui received almost $5,000 worth of donations for these three families. Mahalo to all who helped make this event a huge success! For more information on Lokahi Pacific, please feel free to visit this website: http://www.lokahipacific.org/

Kapalua Zipline!

Last month, I had the honor and privilege of escorting 15 of our top North America agents to the Kapalua Zipline trails. This has to be one of the greatest experiences I've enjoyed while here on Maui.

For those individuals who are looking for a little excitment and an adrenaline rush, this activity will not disappointment. Accompanied by my Starwood Maui colleagues, my agents enjoyed the lower mountain course, which was nearly one mile long. For those adventure seekers who are looking for a little more
thrill, try the Upper Mountain Loop. Soar high above tree canopies, over lush valleys, and a secret waterfall on four ziplines, including line #3 which is nearly 2,300 feel in length!!

If any of you are "Bachelorette" fans, you might have seen the episode when Julianne Harris and the three lucky bachelors were flown to Maui for a weekend getaway. Not only did the bachelorette have one of her dates at the Kapalua Zipline, but they also used our presidential suite here at the Sheraton Maui!

Humpback Whales in Maui!

Aloha everyone!

As Christmas Day is rapidly approaching, our great friends, the Humpback Whales, have started to arrive! A large percentage of the North Pacific migrate to the main Hawaiian islands during the winter months, November through May, each year. The round-trip distance they travel during this annual migration is approximately 4,000 miles, one of the longest migration distances of any animal species. During their stay in Hawaii, they do not feed, but rely upon stored energy. Near the islands, the whales devote most of their time to mating and giving birth to their calves. While visiting the islands, kohola have become renowned for their various acrobatic displays.

Humpback whales are an endangered species. In the past, the global humpback whale population size was about 750,000 to 2 million animals. The current global population is about 30 to 40 thousand. With about 66% of the North Pacific population wintering in Hawaii each year, up to 10,000 humpback whales could come to Hawaii this winter.

To learn more about this magnificent creatures, please feel free to visit this website to learn more: http://www.whalewatchmaui.com/migration.html

Cliff Diving Ceremony

As sunset paints the sky, a warrior sets torches aflame along the beach and on the crest of Black Rock. A chant of Old Hawai'i accompanies him as he climbs to the crest where he offers his torch and flower lei to the sea and plunges into the rolling surf. Come enjoy a tasty mai tai from our Lagoon Bar as you witness our cliff divers make this treacherous leap from Black Rock.
